Jake Marshall is an LA-based up and coming indie pop artist, and he’s also a vocal champ. I really enjoyed producing this track, and when I pushed the boundaries of Jake’s musical genre norms, he responded with agility, speed and skill, completely absorbing, shaping and pushing the track into his own sonic identity. When I suggested a melody for the first verse, he took the ball and ran with it. But when I suggested one for the very unique synth-punctuated bridge, he dodged my suggestion entirely and came up with an innovative rhythmic vocal that matches the repetitive synth sounds, one that turned out to be the keeper take that I mixed down and is on the release.
